Shielded Wire M27500

M27500 is a MIL-DTL-27500 twisted shielded cable built for motorsport sensor wiring. Each variant pairs M22759 Tefzel-type conductors with a tinned copper braid shield and drain wire, rated −65°C to +150°C and 600 V. The braid provides effective protection against electromagnetic interference when routing low-level signals alongside ignition wiring, power cables, and CAN bus lines.

XTRA Motorsport stocks four M27500 part numbers covering 18, 22, and 24 AWG in 2-core and 3-core configurations.

Part Number Selection

Part number Gauge Cores Typical application
M27500-18SD2T23 18 AWG 2 ABS wheel speed sensors, longer signal runs needing lower resistance
M27500-22SB2T23 22 AWG 2 Crank/cam VR triggers, knock sensors, general shielded signal wiring
M27500-24SB2T23 24 AWG 2 Lightweight builds, TPS and MAP sensor signal lines, short runs
M27500-24SB3T23 24 AWG 3 Active CAS and Hall-effect sensors needing supply, signal, and ground in one shield

2-Core vs 3-Core

Use 2-core for passive sensors — variable reluctance (VR) crank and cam triggers, knock sensors, and wheel speed sensors that do not need a supply voltage. Both conductors carry the differential signal; a separate single-core wire supplies power where needed.

Use 3-core for active sensors — Hall effect crank angle sensors and digital speed sensors that need supply voltage, signal output, and ground return all within a single shielded cable run.

Shield Grounding

Ground the drain wire at one end only — typically at the ECU or signal receiver end. Leave the sensor-end drain wire insulated and unconnected. Connecting both ends creates a ground loop that can increase rather than reduce noise.
