Bosch Motorsport ABS

The Bosch Motorsport ABS M5 is the reference anti-lock braking system for professional motorsport. Unlike production ABS, the M5 is fully configurable — wheel slip thresholds, vehicle parameters, and ABS map assignment are set per vehicle, track surface, and driving style. Used across GT3, GT4, Porsche Cup, time attack, hillclimb, endurance, and rallycross worldwide, it is the motorsport ABS system trusted by OEM race car manufacturers and privateer teams alike.

XTRA Motorsport is an authorised Bosch Motorsport dealer. All ABS M5 kits are dispatched via DHL Express and UPS worldwide — including the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, and the UK — typically within 2–3 weeks on special order.

Clubsport vs Kit 1

The ABS M5 Clubsport uses a generic standard wiring harness common to all vehicle installations, covering the full range of motorsport applications. Preset ABS maps are selected via the 12-position function switch.

The ABS M5 Kit 1 adds a custom wiring harness built to motorsport specification — Raychem DR-25 sleeving and fully sealed connectors — and unlocks advanced control algorithms:

  • Downforce-dependent slip — adjusts the wheel slip target based on aerodynamic downforce level
  • Lateral deceleration slip — modifies slip thresholds during high lateral g loading
  • Corner inside wheel slip reduction — reduces locking tendency of the inside wheel under braking in corners
  • ABS-Off option on position 1 — position 1 of the switch can be configured as a full ABS disable
  • ABS map selection via CAN — maps selectable via CAN signal in addition to the physical switch
  • Flexible CAN terminals — configurable CAN wiring for custom vehicle integrations

The advanced Kit 1 algorithms require programming by Bosch Motorsport engineers (available at additional cost) and are designed for GT3/GT4 car manufacturers, hypercar development programmes, and professional OEM motorsport builds.

ABS M5 Kit 2

The ABS M5 Kit 2 includes all Kit 1 features plus motorsport-specification connectors on the wheel speed sensor leads. Available on special order — contact XTRA Motorsport for details.

RaceABS Software and Configuration

Vehicle parameters are set using RaceABS software, available free of charge from Bosch Motorsport. The Bosch Motorsport MSA-BOX II USB interface is required for connection between laptop and ABS unit (sold separately).

Configurable parameters:

  • Vehicle weight and track width
  • Wheel weights and wheel circumference
  • Wheelbase
  • Wheel speed sensor increment count
  • ABS map assignment per switch position (Kit 1)

After every order, XTRA Motorsport support engineers contact the customer to confirm wheel speed sensor signal type, CAN bus speed, and vehicle-specific installation requirements.

12-Position Function Switch

The driver-accessible 12-position switch selects ABS intervention level to match track conditions:

  • Positions for high grip (dry) — low slip threshold, maximum braking force
  • Positions for intermediate grip — moderate intervention
  • Positions for low grip (wet, gravel) — higher slip tolerance
  • Position 1 (Kit 1/2 option) — ABS-Off

FAQ

What is the difference between ABS M5 Clubsport and Kit 1?

The Clubsport uses a standard generic harness and preset switch-selectable ABS maps — the right choice for most motorsport builds. Kit 1 has a custom motorsport-spec harness (Raychem DR-25, fully sealed) and enables advanced control algorithms: ABS-Off on position 1, CAN-based map selection, downforce-dependent slip, lateral deceleration slip, and corner inside wheel slip reduction. The advanced Kit 1 features require programming by Bosch Motorsport engineers at additional cost and are used in GT3/GT4 manufacturing and OEM programmes.

What software and interface are needed to configure the ABS M5?

RaceABS software (free) handles vehicle parameter calibration. The Bosch Motorsport MSA-BOX II USB interface connects the laptop to the ABS unit and is sold separately. XTRA Motorsport engineers review all technical requirements with each customer after order placement.

What wheel speed sensors does the ABS M5 use?

The Clubsport and Kit 1 are supplied with 4× wheel speed sensors. The variant — DF11I, DF11S, or DF11V — is confirmed at order based on the vehicle and CAN bus speed (1 Mbit/s or 500 kbit/s). The Porsche 991 kit is compatible with the factory series wheel speed sensors (not included). The Porsche 996/997 kit includes vehicle-specific DF11S sensors.

Does the ABS M5 integrate with Bosch Motorsport ECU and DDU display?

Yes. The ABS M5 communicates via CAN with Bosch Motorsport ECU and DDU displays. Wheel speed, brake pressure, and ABS intervention data are available on CAN for logging and display in RaceCon.
