KV Series — Professional Wire-In ECU

The KV Series is Emtron’s professional-grade wire-in ECU platform. All KV models run on the same processing hardware with Ethernet communications, dual integrated LSU 4.9 wideband lambda controllers, dual drive-by-wire, dual knock control, 3-axis onboard G-force sensing, and up to 32 MB data logging with a 4-channel oscilloscope. Configured in Emtune software.

Model Max fuel channels Max ignition channels Logging Connector
KV8 8 8 32 MB Super Seal
KV12 12 (6-cyl staged) 12 32 MB Super Seal
KV16 16 (8-cyl staged) 12 32 MB Super Seal
KV16M 16 12 32 MB Deutsch Autosport 136-way

The KV12 supports direct injection (GDI) engines when paired with an external injector driver — see the Bosch Motorsport HPI5 Injection Power Stage. An optional GDI licence is required; contact us to confirm before ordering.

SL Series — Compact Professional ECU

The SL Series shares the KV platform’s processing power and memory, in a compact billet aluminium enclosure with a reduced I/O count and no onboard lambda controllers. Right for builds where packaging space is a constraint or where a lighter pin count is preferred. All SL models support DBW, VVT, VVTiE, boost control, and Ethernet.

  • SL4 ECU — up to 4 cylinders sequential
  • SL6 ECU — up to 6 cylinders sequential
  • SL8 ECU — up to 8 cylinders sequential

Shadow 8 — Entry-Level ECU

The Emtron Shadow 8 controls up to 8-cylinder engines with the full Emtron feature set — including DBW, VVT, boost, knock, traction control, and gearshift control — in an ultra-compact 68-way Super Seal package. USB-C communications; no Ethernet. 16 MB onboard logging.

Shadow 8 ECU — suitable for club motorsport, time attack, performance road builds, and race teams working within a tighter budget.

Plug-In ECUs

Drop-in ECUs for popular motorsport platforms. No modification to the factory harness required. All plug-in models run the full Emtron KV feature set.

Displays

ED7 — 7-Inch Digital Dashboard

The Emtron ED7 is the standard Emtron digital dashboard. 7-inch TFT, 1280 × 768, 2× CAN bus, 2× camera inputs, 16 RGB shift LEDs, 64 GB logging at 2,000 Hz. Configurable in Emtune. Right for most KV8, KV12, SL, and Shadow 8 builds.

ED10M — 10.3-Inch Digital Dashboard

The Emtron ED10M is the large-format Emtron display. 10.3-inch ultra-wide TFT (1920 × 768), quad-core NXP processor, 4× CAN 2.0B, 4× camera inputs, Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, 16 RGB shift LEDs, and 64 GB logging. 55-way MIL-Spec connector. Suited to KV16 and KV16M builds, multi-camera setups, and applications running a 4-CAN network — for example a KV16M + TM16 + PDU + dash architecture.

TM16 — Transmission Control Module

The Emtron TM16 is a fully programmable Transmission Control Module for dual-clutch and automatic transmission control in motorsport applications. It integrates natively with all Emtron KV ECUs via CAN bus — the ECU and TM16 share torque data, shift requests, and shaft speeds in real time, enabling coordinated ignition retard and fuel cut during gear changes.

Supported transmissions: ZF 8HP45/50/70/75/90/95, Nissan GR6 dual clutch, BMW GS7 dual clutch, VW/Audi DSG, and conventional automatics. A TM16-to-R35 adapter kit is available for Nissan R35 GT-R builds.

Configured via TMtune — free Windows software, Ethernet connected.

FAQ

Which Emtron ECU should I choose for my engine?

For engines up to 8 cylinders, the Shadow 8 covers club and time attack builds at the lowest price point; the SL8 or KV8 are the step up for semi-professional and professional work respectively. For 6-cylinder engines requiring staged injection or sequential on all 12 injectors, the KV12 is the correct choice. For 8-cylinder staged injection (16 injectors total) or 16-cylinder engines, choose the KV16. The KV16M is for builds requiring a MIL-DTL-38999 Series III connector — LMP cars, prototypes, and any series or team where the rules or build specification mandate it. Use the selection guide table at the top of this page as a starting point; contact us if you are unsure.

Is Emtune difficult to learn compared to Link G4X or Haltech Nexus?

Emtune sits between those two in terms of learning curve. The layout will feel familiar if you have used other map-based ECU software — base calibration, ignition, fuel, and boost tables follow the same logic. Most experienced standalone ECU tuners are productive within a few days of bench time. HP Academy publishes an Emtron ECU tuning course specifically for Emtune; Evans Performance Academy also offers official Emtron training modules.

How quickly can you ship Emtron products to Europe?

XTRA Motorsport receives weekly shipments from Emtron Australia. Standard delivery to most EU countries is 1–3 business days via DHL or UPS once dispatched. Express options are available. No import duty or customs delays for EU buyers — we handle Lithuanian VAT invoicing and EU VAT reverse charge for registered businesses.

Can the Emtron KV12 or KV16 control a direct injection (GDI) engine?

Yes. The KV12 and KV16 support GDI when paired with an external high-voltage injector driver — the Bosch Motorsport HPI5 Injection Power Stage is the correct unit for this application. The ECU handles all engine management logic; the HPI5 provides the high-voltage drive current for GDI solenoid injectors. An optional GDI software licence for the ECU may be required — confirm with us before ordering.

What is the difference between the KV16 and KV16M?

The KV16 uses a standard Super Seal connector and is the correct choice for the majority of professional motorsport builds. The KV16M replaces the Super Seal with a 136-way Deutsch Autosport (MIL-DTL-38999 Series III) circular connector — the standard used in LMP and prototype endurance builds, and in the few GT3 programmes that run purpose-built motorsport harnesses rather than adapted OEM looms. The KV16M also provides 24 analogue inputs and 14 digital inputs versus the standard KV16. The KV16M does not use the standard KV ECU Connector Kit; it requires the EIC16M connector system. Both models have identical processing hardware and run the same Emtune software.

Does the ED10M replace the ED7, or are both still available?

Both remain in the current product range. The ED7 (7-inch, 2× CAN, 34-pin Super Seal) is the right choice for compact cockpits, single or dual-camera builds, and most KV8/KV12/SL pairings. The ED10M (10.3-inch ultra-wide, 4× CAN, 55-way MIL-Spec, Wi-Fi, quad-core processor) is suited to KV16 and KV16M builds where you need multi-camera video, a 4-CAN network (e.g. ECU + TM16 + PDU + display each on separate CAN buses), or a full-width cockpit display.

Can the TM16 control a ZF 8HP or Nissan GR6 gearbox, and when is it available?

Yes. The TM16 is specifically designed for ZF 8HP multi-clutch automatics (45/50/70/75/90/95 with 16-pin connectors), Nissan GR6 dual clutch, BMW GS7 dual clutch, VW/Audi DSG, and conventional automatics. A dedicated TM16-to-R35 adapter kit is available for Nissan R35 GT-R builds. The TM16 communicates over CAN with Emtron KV ECUs, sharing torque limit requests, shift events, and shaft speed data in real time. Contact us via the website to discuss availability, wiring integration, and pricing.
