The AiM SmartyCam is the benchmark motorsport action camera. AiM SmartyCam 3 — What Makes It Different

Most motorsport cameras record video. SmartyCam records a complete picture of what the driver and car were doing at every moment.

When you play back footage from a SmartyCam, you see exactly what the driver saw — and overlaid on that footage, in real time, the live data channels from the car. No syncing in post-production, no guesswork. The data and video are recorded together and stay perfectly in sync in Race Studio 3.

Live Data Channels on Video

• Speed — GPS or wheel speed, displayed as a bar or numeric readout
• RPM — engine speed with configurable shift light indicator
• Gear position — current gear overlaid on screen
• G-forces — lateral and longitudinal, displayed as a G-meter

AiM SmartyCam 3 HD

The standard SmartyCam 3 records 1920×1080 HD video at 30fps. Compact housing, wide-angle lens, and direct CAN connection to AiM dash loggers. The most popular choice for circuit racing and track days.

AiM SmartyCam 3 HD Corsa

The Corsa variant adds a higher frame rate option (60fps) for smoother slow-motion playback — useful for analysing braking points, kerb strikes, and suspension movement.

AiM SmartyCam 3 Sport

A more compact and lightweight version designed for applications where packaging space is tight — formula cars, karts, and tight cockpit installations.

Integration with AiM Dash Loggers

SmartyCam 3 connects directly to any AiM dash logger (MXS, MXP, MXG, MXm, EVO5) via the SmartyCam CAN harness. Once connected:

• The dash logger provides all data channels to SmartyCam automatically
• Video and data are recorded in sync with a single timestamp
• Both are downloaded together to Race Studio 3 via Wi-Fi or USB
• In Race Studio 3, you can overlay any logged channel onto the video, compare laps side by side, and sync SmartyCam footage with the full data trace

SmartyCam can also be used standalone — connected directly to an ECU or used with GPS only, without a dash logger.

Race Studio 3 — Free Analysis Software

All AiM SmartyCam footage is analysed in Race Studio 3, AiM’s free desktop software. Overlay any channel from your data logger onto the video, compare driver inputs between laps, and synchronise multiple camera views. No subscription, no per-session fees.
