What Is the CAS-M 3 EVO?
The CAS-M 3 EVO (Collision Avoidance System Motorsport 3 EVO) is Bosch Motorsport’s most advanced rear-facing driver awareness system. Designed for the speed differentials of multi-class endurance racing — where GT cars and faster prototypes share the same circuit — it gives drivers real-time information about approaching vehicles from behind. The EVO generation introduces an improved HD camera with extra-low latency and motorsport-grade connectors.
System Components
Rear Module
The rear module integrates two complementary sensors:
- 76.0–77.0 GHz FMCW radar (Bosch MRRe14HBW sensor base) — detects distance, relative speed, and lateral position of up to 40 objects regardless of darkness, rain, or spray
- HD camera with extra-low latency — provides the driver display with a visual rear view; EVO generation significantly reduces image lag versus the previous generation
Display Unit
The CAS-M 3 EVO includes a dedicated Bosch Motorsport display unit that processes both radar and camera feeds simultaneously:
- Live HD camera feed as the base view
- Up to 4 highlighted target vehicles overlaid on the image, selected from the 40-object tracking pool based on proximity and closing speed
- Distance and relative speed classification for each displayed target
- Flashing LED alerts when any vehicle is actively overtaking
Key Features
40-Vehicle Tracking
The radar continuously monitors up to 40 objects in the detection zone. The system selects the 4 most relevant based on closing speed and distance and displays them on the driver screen. The driver sees the complete rear picture without interpreting raw sensor data.
All-Conditions Operation
Radar is unaffected by darkness, rain, or spray. The combination of radar and HD camera provides complete situational awareness in conditions where mirrors alone are insufficient — night stages at Le Mans, wet circuits at the Nürburgring, sunrise/sunset glare at Daytona.
RaceCon Integration
Configuration, calibration, and data logging use RaceCon — the same software platform as Bosch Motorsport ECUs, DDUs, and data loggers. All CAS-M 3 EVO channels are available for logging in WinDarab V7 alongside ECU and chassis data.
Who Uses It
- GT3 and LMGT3 teams in WEC, ELMS, and GT World Challenge
- LMP2/LMP3 teams in multi-class events with GTE/GT3 traffic
- Any mixed-class endurance event where regulations mandate or recommend a camera/radar system
