The Bosch Motorsport DF11S is the wheel speed sensor specified for the Bosch Motorsport ABS M4 and ABS M5 anti-lock braking systems. It uses differential Hall-effect sensing — two Hall elements in a differential arrangement, which rejects common-mode noise and enables accurate speed measurement in the high-vibration, high-interference environment of a racing wheel hub.
Critical wiring note: The DF11S is a current-modulated active sensor. Its output is a current loop signal (not a standard 5 V voltage signal), designed to connect directly to the ABS M5 ECU input which expects this format. Connecting a DF11S directly to a standard 5 V Hall input on a standalone ECU (Emtron, Link, MoTeC, etc.) will not produce a usable signal and may damage the ECU input.
It can, however, be connected to an Emtron or MoTeC M1 series ECU using an external pullup resistor, which converts the current-loop output into a voltage signal the ECU input can read. The required resistance depends on the supply voltage — knowing the supply voltage, you can calculate how many ohms are needed.
When the signal must be shared between the ABS M5 and a standalone ECU or data logger, the Bosch Wheel Speed Signal Splitter is the correct interface — it receives the DF11S current-loop signal, forwards it to the ABS M5, and simultaneously outputs an open-collector digital signal compatible with standard ECU speed inputs.
