Bosch Motorsport MM7.10 Acceleration Sensor

605.00  excl. VAT

The Bosch Motorsport MM7.10 is a 6-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) measuring three axes of linear acceleration and three axes of rotation (yaw, pitch, and roll) — all via a single 1 Mbaud CAN output. It uses MEMS sensing elements with a Coriolis-effect rotational design, rated to IPX9K, and connects directly to any Bosch Motorsport ECU, VCU, or data logger via CAN for complete 6-DOF vehicle dynamics measurement without a separate signal conditioning module.

The Bosch Motorsport MM7.10 measures the complete 6-degree-of-freedom motion state of a racing vehicle: three axes of linear acceleration (longitudinal, lateral, vertical) and three axes of rotation (yaw rate, pitch rate, roll rate) in a single compact unit. Both measurement types are output simultaneously over a single 1 Mbaud CAN interface — no additional wiring runs or CAN nodes are required to separate the linear and rotational data.

The rotational measurement uses MEMS Coriolis-effect sensing: as the sensing element rotates, the Coriolis force shifts the internal capacitance of the micro-machined structure, generating a signal proportional to angular velocity. The linear acceleration uses surface micro-machined sensing elements across all three axes. Together, these allow the ECU or VCU to reconstruct the full vehicle dynamics state — tyre slip angle, lateral load transfer, longitudinal load transfer under braking, and suspension motion — with sufficient resolution for closed-loop traction, stability, and damper control algorithms.

Three selectable cut-off frequencies (15 Hz, 30 Hz, or 70 Hz) allow the user to match the sensor bandwidth to the application — 15 Hz for low-noise chassis dynamics measurements, 70 Hz for fast-response ABS and traction control inputs. The AMP-MQS Superseal connector provides IP sealing at the wiring interface; the sensor body itself is rated to IPX6K, IPX7K, and IPX9K — fully sealed against jets, immersion, and high-pressure wash.

The MM7.10 is the full 6-axis version. For applications that do not require pitch rate measurement, the MM5.10 provides 5-axis measurement (3 linear + yaw + roll) in a lighter, slightly smaller package.

What You Can Do With It

  • Measure the full 6-degree-of-freedom motion state of the vehicle from a single CAN-connected device
  • Feed yaw rate, lateral acceleration, and roll rate to the VCU MS 50.4 for closed-loop stability and traction control
  • Monitor pitch rate and longitudinal acceleration for data-based suspension balance analysis
  • Detect wheel lock, axle hop, and kerb strikes from high-resolution vertical acceleration at 70 Hz bandwidth
  • Log all 6 DOF channels in the Bosch Motorsport C70, C80, or any ECU with CAN logging
  • Select 15 Hz bandwidth for clean chassis dynamics data with minimal vibration contamination
  • Mount in any orientation — configure mounting angles in software; no alignment jig required
  • Connect to non-Bosch ECUs and loggers via standard 1 Mbaud CAN

FAQ

What is the difference between the MM7.10 and MM5.10?

The MM7.10 measures 6 degrees of freedom: 3 linear (X, Y, Z) plus 3 rotational (yaw, pitch, roll). The MM5.10 measures 5 DOF: 3 linear plus yaw and roll only — it does not measure pitch rate. The MM7.10 is 7 g heavier and 2.3 mm taller. Choose the MM7.10 when pitch rate measurement is needed for suspension analysis, longitudinal load transfer calculation, or hillclimb/rally applications with significant gradient changes.

How does the MM7.10 connect to the ECU?

The MM7.10 outputs all 6 channels over a standard 1 Mbaud CAN bus. It requires no external signal conditioning and wires directly into the vehicle CAN network. Confirm that CAN ID 0x0170 (Rx) and 0x75 (Rx) are not already in use by another device — these IDs are used by the MM7.10 for synchronisation.

Does the MM7.10 need to be mounted in a specific orientation?

The MM7.10 must be mounted with the connector pointing in the opposite direction to the vehicle’s primary direction of travel — connector facing rearward for a longitudinally-mounted sensor. Pitch, roll, and yaw axes are defined relative to the sensor’s axes in its mounting orientation. Software configuration in RaceCon allows for mounting angle correction if the sensor is not mounted exactly aligned to the vehicle axes.

What cut-off frequency should I use?

Use 15 Hz for chassis dynamics analysis — suspension displacement, body motion, load transfer. This reduces high-frequency vibration contamination from engine and drivetrain. Use 30 Hz for mixed applications. Use 70 Hz for active control inputs (traction control, ABS) where the fastest possible response is required and vibration contamination is managed in software.

Is the MM7.10 compatible with non-Bosch ECUs and loggers?

Yes. The 1 Mbaud CAN output is a standard protocol compatible with any CAN-capable ECU or logger. Use the Bosch Motorsport CAN DBC database file to define the channel mapping in your data analysis software.
