90 Degree Heat Shrink Boots

A 90 degree heat shrink boot — also called a right-angle boot — turns the harness through 90° immediately behind the connector backshell, so the cable exits perpendicular to the connector axis. Use one where chassis or bulkhead clearance is tight and a straight boot would force the cable to strain against the boot wall.

XTRA Motorsport stocks right-angle moulded boots from Raychem (TE Connectivity) in the 222K and 224W series and the HellermannTyton equivalents, covering Souriau 8STA and Deutsch AS shells 03–24. Each is moulded from fluid-resistant elastomer rated −75 °C to +150 °C and recovers over the backshell with a calibrated heat gun. As an official Bosch Motorsport dealer with 25+ years of harness experience, we list every boot’s Big End (H) and Small End (J) diameters as supplied and after recovery so you can match the boot to the backshell and cable.

These boots are not adhesive-lined as standard — pair with HellermannTyton V9500 epoxy or ResinTech RT125 for a fully sealed joint.

When to use a 90° boot instead of a straight boot

Choose a right-angle boot when the harness must bend sharply right behind the connector — common at bulkhead pass-throughs, tight engine-bay routing, and where a straight exit would foul adjacent components. If the cable can exit inline, use a straight heat shrink boot instead. For the full range and sizing guidance, see all heat shrink boots.

FAQ

How is a 90 degree heat shrink boot recovered?

Set a calibrated heat gun to around 250 °C (minimum recovery is +135 °C). Start at the large end (H port) over the connector backshell so it seats against the backshell lip first, then move the air flow evenly around and toward the small end (J port) so it closes tightly on the cable. Do not use an open flame.

Which 90° boot fits my connector?

Match the boot by Big End (H) diameter to the connector backshell and by Small End (J) diameter, after recovery, to the cable. For Souriau 8STA and Deutsch AS shells the Raychem 222K (shells 08–24) and 224W (shell 06) series cover most builds, with HellermannTyton equivalents listed on each product page.
