The Ecumaster PMU-16 AS is the Autosport-connector variant of the PMU-16, engineered for FIA-level motorsport where sealed MIL-grade connectors, IP65 environmental protection, and documented power distribution are required by technical regulations or team standards.

It carries the same 100-function CAN logic engine, open CAN2.0B architecture, and per-output current monitoring as the standard PMU-16, but delivers higher peak output ratings (2×40A for electric power steering or large radiator fans), adds 6 low-side 1A outputs for ECU digital inputs and relay coil switching, and includes 256MB internal data logging as standard — no DL suffix needed. The Radlok 200A tool-free battery connector allows isolation of the full power supply without tools, satisfying FIA electrical shut-off requirements.

What does the AS in PMU-16 AS stand for?

AS stands for Autosport — the Deutsch Autosport connector standard used throughout the unit’s signal connectors. This is the same sealed, MIL-grade connector used in FIA GT3, LMP, and WRC cars, and in aerospace applications. The Autosport connectors provide superior vibration resistance and IP65 sealing compared to the standard 39-pin automotive connector on the PMU-16.

What is the Radlok connector and why does it matter?

The Radlok is a Stäubli power connector rated to 200A, designed to be disconnected and reconnected without tools. On the PMU-16 AS, it serves as the main battery isolation point. FIA Article 253 requires an accessible electrical shut-off that can be operated quickly — the Radlok satisfies this without the need for a separate battery isolator switch.

Does the PMU-16 AS include data logging?

Yes. Unlike the standard PMU-16, the AS version includes 256MB of internal data logging as standard — the same DL hardware that appears as a separate model in the standard family. All output states, currents, and voltages can be logged at up to 500Hz internally, without an external logger.

How is the PMU-16 AS physically different from the PMU-16?

It is a completely different form factor: 177mm long, 84mm wide, 46mm deep, and 527g — versus the standard PMU-16 at 131×112×32mm and 345g. The Autosport connector housings and Radlok battery interface account for the additional size. Mount it with this in mind when designing the power distribution bay.
