The Bosch Motorsport MS 7.4 is the professional-series engine control unit in the MS 7 family, built for gasoline engines up to 12 cylinders in GT3 homologated cars, GT endurance racing, and IMSA GTD competition. The Ferrari 296 GT3 is a confirmed application. It steps up from the MS 6 EVO platform in every key dimension: a 1,000 MHz dual-core processor versus 667 MHz, IP67 sealing versus IP54, four Autosport motorsport connectors versus two Bosch proprietary connectors, integrated high-pressure injection stages versus the HP package add-on, and SERCOS real-time Ethernet for deterministic sub-millisecond data exchange between ECU and other Bosch system devices.

The MS 7.4’s HP injection architecture supports triple injection strategies — simultaneous control of port injection and two high-pressure GDI injectors per cylinder — with eight integrated HP power stages rated to handle 4-cylinder engines at 14,600 rpm, 6-cylinder at 9,700 rpm, or 8-cylinder at 7,300 rpm. Eight integrated ignition power stages (20 A each) serve engines using coils without internal power stages, while 12 external driver outputs cover high-impedance coil-on-plug installations.

Four dedicated knock sensor inputs allow per-cylinder knock detection across the full V12 range without sharing or multiplexing inputs. SERCOS3 Ethernet provides guaranteed 1 ms latency for time-critical data exchange with the VCU MS 50.4 or other Bosch real-time devices in the system architecture.

Software, calibration, and data tools are the same as the MS 6 EVO: RaceCon for calibration, WinDarab V7 for data analysis, and MATLAB/Simulink for Customer Code Area development.

What You Can Do With It

  • Manage gasoline engines up to 12 cylinders with simultaneous port and direct injection (triple injection)
  • Mount the ECU in the engine bay without waterproofing concerns — IP67 sealing withstands full water immersion
  • Use 4 dedicated knock inputs for per-cylinder knock detection across the full V12 range
  • Connect to real-time Bosch Motorsport devices (VCU, telemetry) via SERCOS Ethernet at guaranteed 1 ms latency
  • Monitor 41 analog channels plus 8 shared analog/digital SENT-capable inputs
  • Drive coils without integrated power stages directly from 8 × 20 A integrated ignition outputs
  • Analyse all logged data in WinDarab V7 using the same interface as the MS 6 EVO platform
  • Deploy custom vehicle control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink via the Customer Code Area

FAQ

What is the main difference between the MS 7.4 and the MS 6 EVO range?

The MS 7.4 is built around a 1,000 MHz processor (vs 667 MHz), provides IP67 sealing (vs IP54), uses four Autosport motorsport connectors instead of two Bosch proprietary connectors, and has integrated HP injection power stages rather than an add-on package. SERCOS real-time Ethernet enables deterministic 1 ms data exchange with external Bosch devices — not available on the MS 6 EVO platform. It targets GT3 homologation and professional endurance racing.

What connector type does the MS 7.4 use?

The MS 7.4 uses four Souriau 8STA 66-way motorsport connectors, totalling 264 Size 22 contacts (5 A, 22–28 AWG). These are the same MIL-DTL-38999 equivalent connectors used across Bosch Motorsport, AIM, and other professional motorsport electronics. Contact XTRA Motorsport for harness assembly and connector kit availability.

What is SERCOS Ethernet and why does it matter?

SERCOS3 is a real-time Ethernet protocol that provides guaranteed deterministic data exchange with a maximum latency of 1 ms between connected devices. On the MS 7.4, this enables precise time-aligned data sharing with the Bosch Motorsport VCU MS 50.4 — for example, passing engine torque state to the VCU for traction and stability control without the timing uncertainty of standard CAN.

Does the MS 7.4 support triple injection?

Yes. The MS 7.4 has 8 integrated HP power stages that support triple injection — simultaneous control of port injection (via the 12 LP outputs) and two high-pressure GDI injectors per cylinder. The HP stage count allows triple injection on 4-cylinder engines up to 14,600 rpm, 6-cylinder to 9,700 rpm, and 8-cylinder to 7,300 rpm.

What GT3 cars use the MS 7.4?

The Ferrari 296 GT3 is a confirmed MS 7.4 application. The MS 7.4 is built to the IP67, Autosport-connector, 1,000 MHz specification demanded by GT3 homologation programmes and GT endurance racing. XTRA Motorsport is an authorised Bosch Motorsport distributor supplying the MS 7 range to racing teams and OEM programmes across Europe.
