AiM Tech
AiM Sports — Official European Dealer Since 2008
XTRA Motorsport has been an authorized AiM Sports dealer since 2008. AiM Sports (AiM Sportline S.r.l., Cernusco sul Naviglio, Italy) is the manufacturer of data acquisition systems, dash loggers, power distribution modules, GPS lap timers, and video systems used across every level of motorsport — from club karting to factory GT and endurance programmes.
We receive regular shipments from AiM and hold the full product range for EU customers: no import duties, no customs complications, fast delivery.
About AiM Sports
AiM Sports manufactures motorsport data acquisition electronics and is the manufacturer behind the MX dash logger series, EVO5 data logger, Solo 2 lap timer, MyChron karting loggers, PDM power distribution modules, SmartyCam video systems, and Race Studio 3 software.
AiM equipment connects to 1,000+ ECUs via CAN, RS232, and K-Line without custom configuration — the protocol database is built into Race Studio 3. AiM products are used in GT, TCR (the EVO5 is a factory-standard acquisition system in TCR), rally, open-wheel, endurance, and karting championships worldwide.
Product Families
Dash Loggers — MX Series
The MX Series combines a driver display, data logger, GPS, and ECU interface in a single unit. Available in four screen sizes to suit any cockpit:
- MXm — compact graphical display, integrated GPS, 330 g; suited to motorcycles and restricted cockpits
- MXS — 5-inch TFT, 8 analogue inputs, 2 CAN buses; standard choice for single-seaters and club circuit cars
- MXP — 6-inch TFT, 8 analogue inputs at 1,000 Hz, 3 CAN buses; step up when more CAN expansion is needed
- MXG — 7-inch TFT, same spec as MXP in a larger cockpit format; GT and endurance standard
The MXS Strada and MXP Strada are road-legal display variants with street warning icons — no built-in logger.

Standalone Data Loggers
The AiM EVO5 is a dedicated logger for builds that need sensor acquisition without a display — behind bodywork, under a seat, or as an expansion to an existing dash system. 8 analogue inputs, 4 wheel speed channels, SD card up to 128 GB, 2 CAN buses.
The AiM Solo 2 DL is a compact GPS lap timer and ECU data logger in a magnetic-mount unit — the simplest way to add lap timing and ECU data logging to any car.
Power Distribution Modules — PDM
AiM PDM units replace fuse boxes and relay panels with solid-state power distribution that also logs data, controls a dash display, and adds GPS lap timing — all in one unit.
- PDM08 — 8 outputs, 100 A total; single-seaters, hillclimb, motorcycle
- PDM32 — 32 outputs including 4× 35 A half-bridge, 120 A total; GT, endurance, full panel replacement

Video — SmartyCam 3
SmartyCam 3 records full HD video with live telemetry data overlaid — speed, RPM, gear, G-forces, lap time — sourced directly from the connected AiM logger or ECU via CAN. No separate overlay box or post-processing required; the data is embedded in the video file and analysed frame-by-frame in Race Studio 3.
Three models: Sport (entry), Corsa (global shutter CMOS, for high-RPM circuit use), GP (adds 3G-SDI live output for broadcast and FIA/FIM series).

Karting — MyChron 6
The AiM MyChron 6 is the standard data logger for karting. Integrated 25 Hz GPS, 6-axis IMU, OLED display, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and IP67 sealing. Compatible with water temperature, CHT, and EGT sensors.

Steering Wheels
The AiM GT32 is a 320 mm motorsport steering wheel with 10 CAN pushbuttons, 3 rotary switches, and optional magnetic carbon paddle shifters. Connects directly to AiM PDM08/PDM32 via CAN — button presses toggle PDM outputs without additional switch wiring.
Race Studio 3 — Free Software, No Subscription
Every AiM product is configured and analysed using Race Studio 3, downloadable free from aim-sportline.com. There is no subscription, no per-session fee, and no hardware dongle.
Race Studio 3 handles:
– ECU protocol configuration — select your ECU from 1,000+ in the database, or build a custom CAN protocol for ECUs not listed
– Sensor calibration — map voltage to engineering units for any analogue input
– Data analysis — overlay multiple channels against track position, compare laps, sync with SmartyCam video for frame-by-frame telemetry review
– Track mapping — automatic circuit detection from GPS, manual map creation for private or new venues
– Device setup — configure display pages, shift LED thresholds, alarm values, data logging rate per channel

AiM ECU Compatibility
AiM dash loggers and data loggers connect to 1,000+ ECUs via CAN bus, RS232, or K-Line. For ECUs not in the database, Race Studio 3 includes a CAN protocol builder that generates a custom mapping from a CAN trace.
ECUs confirmed compatible in XTRA Motorsport builds:
- Emtron KV and SL Series — full CAN integration, used regularly in our own installations
- Link G4X and G5 Series — CAN, RS232, standard protocol in Race Studio 3
- ECUmaster EMU and PMU range — CAN, confirmed
- Bosch Motorsport MS6, MS7, MS25 — CAN, confirmed
Any ECU with a CAN output and a known message structure can be integrated. Contact us before ordering if you have a non-standard ECU and want confirmation.
FAQ
Which AiM product should I start with?
It depends on the application. For karting, the MyChron 6 is the correct starting point — it is purpose-built for karts and does not require any installation beyond the temperature sensor connection. For circuit racing in a car, the Solo 2 DL is the simplest option: magnetic mount, immediate lap timing, ECU connection optional. For a build that needs a driver display alongside logging, the MXS or MXP provides everything in one unit. Contact us if you are unsure — we will recommend based on your car, ECU, and what you want to analyse.
Does AiM work with my ECU?
Almost certainly yes. AiM products connect to 1,000+ ECUs via CAN, RS232, and K-Line. The protocol database in Race Studio 3 covers virtually all motorsport and production ECUs. For ECUs not in the database — custom or older units — the CAN protocol builder in Race Studio 3 allows you to define a mapping manually from a CAN trace. We have integrated AiM loggers with Emtron, Link, ECUmaster, Bosch Motorsport, and OEM factory ECUs without issue.
What software do I need and does it cost extra?
Race Studio 3 is free. Download it from aim-sportline.com. There is no subscription, no licence fee, and no hardware dongle. Race Studio 3 handles device configuration, ECU protocol setup, and all post-session data analysis including video sync with SmartyCam. There is no ongoing cost after the hardware purchase.
Can I add a camera, GPS, or more sensors to my system later?
Yes. All AiM MX Series dash loggers expand via the CAN bus. Adding a SmartyCam 3 requires only a CAN cable to the existing logger — video and data are then synchronised automatically in Race Studio 3. A GPS09 module adds lap timing to any unit that does not already include one. Analogue expansion via the ACC2 Open module adds up to 8 additional sensor inputs. Most expansions plug in and are recognised automatically.
Is AiM equipment suitable for club racing, or only professional teams?
Both. The MX Series, Solo 2 DL, and MyChron 6 are used from club day through factory GT and endurance programmes — the same hardware, the same software, the same data. The MyChron 6 is the standard kart logger at club through international level. Race Studio 3 is designed so a driver with no engineering background can read useful lap delta and sector time data within a session or two. We support customers from first-time buyers through professional race engineers.
