Link Engine Management produces standalone engine control units in wire-in and plug-in configurations. Current production platforms are G4X (the established range) and G5 (the current generation). All models run PCLink software — G4X and G5 calibration files are cross-compatible, and tuners do not need to relearn the software or rebuild calibrations when upgrading between platforms. XTRA Motorsport is an authorised Link Engine Management dealer in the EU.
G4X Wire-In ECUs
Wire-in G4X ECUs require a custom wiring harness and can be fitted to any engine matching the output count. All share the same G4X microcontroller and PCLink firmware — feature differences are driven by I/O count, not separate software licences.
All G4X wire-in ECUs support high-impedance (saturated) injectors only. No G4X wire-in ECU supports peak-and-hold injection.
G5 Wire-In ECUs
The G5 platform adds WiFi, onboard GPS, Ethernet, and onboard wideband lambda as standard features on all models. G4X calibration files load directly into G5 ECUs.
+ Dual wideband, 14 analog inputs, Ethernet, 3 connectors
Direct injection (GDI) on G5 ECUs requires the optional DI Driver-4 module.
Plug-In ECUs
G4X plug-in ECUs replace the factory ECU PCB inside the original OEM enclosure — no harness modification required. Link covers 29 vehicle platforms across Japanese and European applications.
CAN Lambda Controller — Bosch LSU 4.9 wideband via CAN bus; CAN-only output (no analogue). For ECUs without onboard wideband.
Razor PDM — 100 A programmable power distribution module. Replaces fuse and relay panels. Works standalone or as a CAN output expander with any G4+ or G4X ECU.
DI Driver-4 — High-voltage drive module for direct injection (GDI) injectors. Required for GDI builds on G5 ECUs.
XS Expansion Loom — Adds I/O channels to G4X plug-in ECUs. Required for external MAP sensors on plug-in models without onboard MAP.
What is the difference between the G4X and G5 Link ECU platforms?
G4X is the established wire-in range (AtomX through FuryX) using USB-B connectivity and up to 512 MB onboard logging. G5 is the current generation and adds built-in WiFi (real-time PCLink without a cable), onboard GPS, Ethernet for faster log downloads, and 1 GB data logging on the Neo 4 and Neo 6 models. Both platforms run the same PCLink software, and G4X calibration files open directly in G5 ECUs — no rebuild required.
Which Link G4X wire-in ECU should I choose for an 8-cylinder sequential build?
The minimum is the StormX — it has 8 injection and 8 ignition outputs for full sequential on 8 cylinders. If the build also needs drive-by-wire throttle or traction control, step up to the XtremeX. The FuryX suits 6-cylinder builds where an integrated wideband lambda eliminates a separate module.
Do Link plug-in ECUs support automatic transmissions?
Most Link G4X plug-in ECUs are manual transmission only. The exceptions are the 350ZLink (Nissan 350Z / Skyline V35, both manual and auto) and the BMWLink (BMW E36 M50TUB25, both manual and auto). All other plug-in models require manual transmission.
Can I load my existing G4X map into a G5 ECU?
Yes. PCLink opens G4X and G5 calibration files in the same software. A G4X map loads directly into a G5 ECU, which significantly reduces re-tuning time when upgrading. Pinouts between G5 Neo and G4X ECUs are similar, minimising harness repinning work.
Does Link ECU support direct injection (GDI) engines?
On the G5 platform, yes — with the addition of the DI Driver-4 module. The G5 Neo 4 supports 4-cylinder staged GDI with one DI Driver-4; the Neo 6 supports 6-cylinder staged GDI with one or two DI Driver-4 units; the Voodoo Pro supports up to 12-cylinder GDI. No G4X wire-in ECU supports direct injection natively.
What does the CAN Lambda controller do, and does it have a 0–5 V output?
The LinkECU CAN Lambda Controller is a digital wideband controller for the Bosch LSU 4.9 sensor. It transmits lambda data via CAN bus only — there is no 0–5 V analogue output. It requires no free-air calibration. It is compatible with Link G4+, G4X, G5, MoTeC M1, and any ECU with a configurable CAN input.
Is PCLink software free?
Yes. PCLink is a free download from linkecu.com and all software updates are free. It is the same software used for every G4X and G5 ECU. The firmware loaded into the ECU determines which feature tabs are active — there are no annual subscription fees or software licence tiers.
How do I tell which Subaru WRX V10 plug-in I need — WRX104X or WRX107X?
Check ECU header pins A1, A2, and A3 on your factory ECU. If those three pins have wires connected: WRX104X (224-4000), which covers most 2004–2006 models. If those three pins are empty: WRX107X (225-4000), which covers most 2006–2007 models. Production year alone is not reliable — always check the pins.
